DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA

The launch of the Namibia Amateur Dance Sport Association (NADSA) was celebrated with a DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA Show on 24 November 2007.
More than 200 invited guests and selected spectators, amongst them many well-known personalities of the Namibian society, had filled the DHPS hall to capacity when Mrs. Agnes Tjongarero, President of the Namibian National Olympic Committee highlighted the importance of NADSA in her opening speech. Apart from setting and monitoring the adherence of national standards in line with those of the international amateur dance sport, NADSA is expected to put Namibia on the world map through its members' participation in international dance competitions.

Mrs. Hannelie Stein, President of NADSA, introduced the association's Executive Committee whose members also represented the dance studios and organisation that contributed to the DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA:

Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Jörg Finkeldey, led the audience through the 5-hour programme of the night that saw an amazing variety of performances by individual dancers and groups - ranging from Junior Higher Exam Syllabi presentations, Hip Hop, and Capoeira to Belly Dancing, traditional Ballroom & Latin American, Cabaret-style, and Modern Dancing. At the grand finale, the stage was hardly big enough for all those who had contributed to the overwhelming success of the show, in the spot lights and behind the scenes.

Thanks to numerous sponsorships, various other kinds of contributions, and especially the tremendous concerted efforts of the NADSA members, the Dance Extravaganza became one of the most outstanding social events of the year. This very encouraging NADSA launch raised the hopes not only of Namibian amateur dancers for obtaining international recognition and awards but also of the Namibian public that the DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA will in future make a regular appearance on Namibia's annual events calendar.

A repeat of this year's show for the general public may be scheduled for early 2008 - watch the press for details.
